To be aware of the current political climate, or just general current events, it's practically required of you to consume some form of news media. It is very important to stay up to speed on national news in particular, as it typically will have the most effect on you and/or be of the most interest to you outside of your local politics. Staying caught up with the comings and goings of national political trends will always serve to keep you informed, educated, and active in the conversation.

Teen gets vaccinated against parents' wishes: https://www.cnn.com/2019/02/12/health/teen-vaccines-parenting/index.html
I think this is an important article because it is addressing a very heated discussion at the moment. It's an objective fact that vaccinating your child is the best way to ensure their health and wellbeing. In this article, a young man by the name of Ethan Lindenberger goes against his anti-vaxx parents' wishes and gets immunized. "El Chapo" is found guilty on all counts: https://www.cnn.com/2019/02/12/us/el-chapo-guzman-trial-verdict/index.html Joaquin Guzman, AKA "El Chapo," is found guilty on of all 10 federal criminal counts against him. He's been given a life sentence without the possibility for parole. I think this article is important because it sheds light on the drug-trafficking problem in the U.S. and Mexico, not to mention, how little this arrest will affect the Sinaloa Cartel's power and influence. Why Trump's threat to declare a national emergency scares republicans: https://www.cnn.com/2019/02/12/politics/trump-national-emergency-gop/index.html Trump's threats to shut down the government "undercut" the support for his agenda and leaves him vulnerable to an "up or down" vote on the wall he desires. This article is significant because it's an informative piece on the current state of Trump's wall and how Republicans in congress view his strategy of attaining said wall. |
